Mouth Guard Or Sports Guard

Mouth guards are part of athletic gear for anybody participating in sports that involves body contact, falls or any activity that could result in an injury to the mouth.

If you have braces on, it is very important to use Mouth guards and you may need to protect your upper and lower teeth. Usually mouth guards cover the upper teeth, and are designed to protect against damage to your mouth such as broken teeth, cut lips.

You should replace your mouth guard every season because of wear and tear, less effective and adolescents are still growing, less properly fitted.

Mandibular Advancement Devices work by moving the jaw forward, which increases the size of the upper airway, thus reducing the air resistance that leads to sleep apnea and snoring. Dental devices for Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) are often used as a substitute for CPAP or sleep apnea oral surgery.

Sleep Apnea mouth guards are anti-snoring devices. They reduce airway turbulence and stop snoring.

These custom MAD’s are often most effective in sleep apnea patients who have mild or moderate sleep apnea. Sleep physicians often recommend a sleep test prior to ordering the Mandibular Advancement Device. It was recently determined that Mandibular Advancement Devices are also effective at reducing blood pressure in patients with hypertension.
